Suncredit News Update
Suncredit Energy Ltd (SCE) completed the financial close of the Hele Manor Project February 2018 and began contract negotiation with EPC and Connection providers in March 2018.
In July, SEL appointed Centrica Business Solutions (CBS), an Engineering Procurement Construction company, as the Principle Contractor & Designer, to undertake the turnkey for the 20MW gas fired technology Gas Peaker plant in Hele Manor, Somerset. Green Frog Connect were appointed as the Independent Connection Provider to install the 33kV connection to site, working with the DNO, Western Power Division (WPD). Green Frog Connects’ sister company, Green Frog Gas Utilities (GFGU) were also contracted as the Utility Infrastructure Provider (UIP) to carry out the gas meter rig works for our gas connection. The gas connection was critical to the project and to mitigate against freezing ground and a winter embargo , SCE instructed the Gas Transporter, Wales and West Utilities (WWU), to complete the Point of Connection by directional drilling under the River Tone late Autumn 2018.
SCE’s Construction Team discharged all the pre-commencement conditions in accordance with the Planning Decision Notice and CBS successfully mobilised on the cold winter morning of 7th January 2019. Despite the Winter conditions CBS progressed well and to programme. The civil team made fast progress with groundworks including the formation of a new access road, and they were able to pour main plinths by early-March. The Low Noise Gensets were delivered onto site at the end of March and were swiftly followed by the Main Transformer, roof mounted radiators and exhaust systems.
SCE faced the challenge of obtaining the approval for the installation under the newly revised ENA recommendation for G99, which came into force 27th April 2019. After careful consultation with Wester Power Distribution, SEL procured, and achieved design approval of the 33kV connection within weeks of instructing the ICP, Green Frog Connect Ltd.
The major connections are now adopted by their stakeholders. The site is now connected to Wales and West Utilities local Medium Pressure gas network and WPD’S Local 33kV circuit. The site is charged with gas and energized, commissioning begins in mid-July and is programmed to complete in August. Western Power Distribution are scheduled to witness test the protection settings under the current ENA Engineering Recommendation G99 very soon.
The Hele Manor site will be the first G99 Gas Peaker plant in WPD according to WPD. The Project Team’s Design and Commissioning Engineers are ready to put months of design and validation into practise, under the supervision of WPD’s Primary systems design team.
SCE would like to thank and recognise all the suppliers who have ensured the site success to date. Their industry leading approaches to HSE, Project Management and Quality Control has enabled SEL to successfully build on their rapidly growing portfolio.
